The winreg.exe file is the main component of the WinREG software. WinREG is a Windows-based utility which is designed for entering pieces of information from church registers regarding baptisms, marriages, and burials. This program is developed by Thomas Horton for the FreeREG project and is intended to assist transcribers in properly and quickly preparing their records which they would in turn submit to the FreeREG project. In addition, WinREG also presents a modern platform which advanced users can improve and enhance over time. The file winreg.exe is commonly found in c:/Program Files/Winreg/. With regard to memory usage, the winreg.exe process requires around 600 kb worth of RAM resources. The file winreg.exe is not related to any hardware and it is not a Windows system process. It is nonetheless a critical component of the WinREG program and thus the winreg.exe file should not be deleted unless the user is certain that it is the cause of certain problems in his computer. Furthermore, the winreg.exe process can run on stand-alone computers and it does not require Internet access.
