The process vsecomr.exe is defined as the McAffe Virus Scan Service. It is an executable application responsible for the periodic update prompts of McAfee VirusScan v.X. The file vsecomr.exe is commonly installed in a subfolder of C:/Program Files/Network Associates/McAfee VirusScan/.

The application vsecomr.exe puts a magnifying glass icon in the system taskbar to assist users in keeping McAfee antivirus software up to date for optimal protection. It pop-ups from time to time to encourage users to upgrade to the latest version of McAfee Antivirus. The process vsecomr.exe runs silently in the background. It also assists users with automated options for updating virus definitions and the scanning of their computer for viruses.

Because the vsecomr.exe application creates the auto-run entries of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run in the system registry, it is loaded with every Windows startup process. The file vsecomr.exe has knows file sizes of 35.54 KB or 36932 bytes, 10.13 KB or 10373 bytes, and 15.5 KB or 15872 bytes.

By default, the program vsecomr.exe automatically notifies you with alerts and sounds for virus outbreaks, security threats and product updates. However, it can be configured to set product alert updates with options such as enabling alerts when a product update occurs, and playing a sound when a product update is displayed. To disable future update alerts from the alert itself, click Turn off this alert type. A message box appears with steps for enabling update alerts again later in the advanced dialog box.

If you are too busy to update your product when the alert appears, you can choose to be reminded later or ignore the alert. The vsecomr.exe application has a Be Reminded Later feature that allows you to select a time delay for your next update reminder or Continue What I Was Doing option to close the alert without taking any action. For maximum protection, it is recommended to let the program vsecomr.exe automatically check for and install updates.

The file vsecomr.exe is not an integral part of the Windows system. It can be uninstalled in the Control Panel's applet.
