The process vagctrl.exe or Vexira Antivirus Guard Control is a component of the software Vexira Antivirus. It is registered to Central Command, Inc., an American corporation that designs and markets virus protection software, consulting and implementation services since 1990. It is also one of the oldest antivirus solution providers in the world.

The program vagctrl.exe provides resident protection against viruses. Its main task is to scan the system for viruses and remove them in the background. The vagctrl.exe application scans the files when they are accessed. Its settings can be modified on the Settings, Scan Areas, and Statistics panels.

The protection settings of the vagctrl.exe program can easily be set by choosing from the pre-defined levels of the Advanced Panel. High settings uses full virus-scanning options with high heuristics. Viruses that can be killed will be disinfected while non-killable ones will be moved to the quarantine vault. Medium settings of the application vagctrl.exe uses extensive virus scanning option with medium heuristics and Weak settings uses fast scanning with no heuristics. Both settings disinfect killable viruses and those that cannot be killed will be skipped.

On the Scan Areas panel of the vagctrl.exe application, file types can be set on which virus scanning should be performed and file paths which should not be scanned. The Scan All Files option enables scanning of all file types when accessed while the Scan Specified File Types enables scanning of only specific files when they are accessed.

The vagctrl.exe program's Statistics panel provides comprehensive information about all the files that have been scanned and the detected infections. It also displays the name of the last found virus and the path where it was found.

The file vagctrl.exe can be found in the subfolder of C:/Program Files/ Vexira/. On Windows XP, it occupies a minimal amount of disk space with 92 KB or 94208 bytes. The vagctrl.exe process starts with every Windows load process creating auto-run registry entries in the system registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run. It installs an icon in the system tray. The vagctrl.exe is non-essential to the Windows system.
