Windows Process Description:

The splshwrp.exe is part of the XP Tablet OS. This file is responsible for displaying the splash screen and can be modified by different OEMs to display their logo. The file is located under the C:/Windows/help directory. The splshwrp.exe, when executed, will access the files tpc_oobe.dll and tabsplash.hta which are located in the same folder.

The splshwrp.exe registry key is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run and the registry name is TabletWizard. The file uses 16,384 KB of hard drive space and current product version is 1.7.2600.2180 based on the xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158 update. The application splshwrp.exe runs at startup and may be disabled at the user's discretion.

The splash screen displays the phrase "Welcome to Tablet PC" as well as the logo and some vital information of the OEM vendor. In the middle part on the splash screen you will see the two options, first is the Get Going with Tablet PC, which you can learn the essentials of the tablet pen and how to input characters.

Second option is the Tablet PC Tutorials, it is a interactive tour of the tablet pc's features and its accessories. The turorials in this section will lead you to a link which you can download other tutorials. Note, some third party applications may cause your tablet pen to stop responding when navigating the splash screen

At the bottom left side of the screen, there's a check box option in which you may put a check on that box if you do not want to run splash screen everytime you tablet PC reboots. To disable the splash screen via th registry editor, browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/TabletOOBE/ShowTabletSplash and Set the Value data to '0' (zero).
