The speed up.exe is process name for FastTrack Accelerator. FastTrack Accelerator is speedup utility for programs that use the FastTrack network such as KaZaA Media Desktop, Grokster and Morpheus. This peer-to-peer file sharing application and FastTrack Client allows you to share all kinds of media and software. It can also download single files form multiple users, and resume broken downloads.

The speed up.exe file occupies 95,744 bytes of hard drive space and located in the C:/Program Files/KaZaA Lite directory. Startup name of speed.exe is FastTrack Accelarator. Registry could be found in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run. Latest version of the speed up.exe file is 2.0.1 based on Speed Up Utility version 3.1.

When the speed up.exe is running, it will continuously search for more resources based on your download list. This will increase download speeds because the more resources can beat the queuing process thus having a shorter completion rate for each downloads. The speed up.exe can also connect to the Gnutella network, a similar peer to peer as FastTrack Network, to search for more resources.

The speed up utility is bundled with peer-to-peer software, most popular is Kazaa Lite. Kazaa Lite is the clean and free version of the spyware carrier, Kazaa Media Desktop. However the utility can also be downloaded separately. The speed up utility was first used by Morpheus peer to peer client but was later replaced. Other peer to peer client software is slowly adapting a similar software utility call RealSPEED as a substitute for FastTrack Accelerator.
