The process smsrun16.exe is part of the Microsoft System Management Server developed by Microsoft Corporation for management of large Windows based computer systems group. Now 2007, Microsoft Corporation will release the said application under a different name, System Center Configuration Manager 2007.
The file smsrun16.exe will be installed under the location C:/MS/SMS/BIN/and will be included in your startup group. The main objective of the smsrun16.exe process is to read the SMSRUN16.INI on the client side computer system to indicate which application will be loaded and started automatically.
The Microsoft System Management Server has two categories: The server application and the client-based application. The minimum system requirement for the server-based application which uses the process smsrun16.exe are 733 MHz Pentium III Processor or higher, at least 256MB of RAM (recommended RAM of 1024MB), and at least 5GB of disk space.
The SMS system is a management software which has the capability to do remote control, software distribution, patch management, and hardware and software inventory to various clients in a given organization or environment.
