Windows Process Description:

The reg.exe file process belongs to the software Reg Application or D-Link Air Plus G Wireless or D-Link Air Plus Xtreme G Adapter or 108Mbps Wireless LAN Adapter or DWL-G650M Super G MIMO or 108Mbps Wireless Network USB. The reg.exe is an executable file that is not associated with the Microsoft Windows operating system. The file reg.exe has an icon on the system tray and the file reg.exe is located in [% C: /Program Files /D-Link/Air plus G Wireless Adapter Utility %]. This reg.exe program cannot be easily removed, but for best usage, it is recommended that the user do the following steps. First, disable any type of security software, disable any antivirus or any software that protects the computer from malicious attacks, and then disable any PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet). The PPPoE protocol is a network protocol for containing PPP (Point-to-Point protocol) frames inside Ethernet frames. The reg.exe process is used primarily with ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) services where individual users connect to the ADSL transceiver (modem) over Ethernet. The PPPoE was improved by UUNET, Router Ware and Red back Networks.

After disabling the PPPoE, disable the Windows XP firewall by clicking on the start button, click on Control Panel; on the Control Panel window double click on the Windows Firewall icon and then click on the Turn Off radio button then click on Apply or Ok. Remove all unnecessary or unimportant software and applications in the Startup by getting in the MSCONFIG program. I recommend that the reg.exe would be left running during start-up since there are no reported incidents that the file process reg.exe had conflicts with the device drivers and Windows core components. It is also safe to leave the reg.exe file inside the system since the program is just meant for local networking.

The program file reg.exe was developed and designed by D-Link Corporation, a company based in Taipei, Taiwan that manufactures wireless and Ethernet computer hardware networking products for both consumer and home and office users across the globe. The company was founded in 1986 by Ken Kao whom is the Current CEO and Chairman. The company has establishments and offices in over 90 countries around the world. D-Link is the largest wireless LAN provider in Europe and the People's Republic of China.
