Windows Process Description:
The process osa9.exe is also known Microsoft Office Startup Assistant or OSA9. This application improves the performance of Microsoft Office 2000 applications. MS Office 2000 setup creates a shortcut to the file osa9.exe in Windows startup and names this shortcut Microsoft Office.
The process osa9.exe is able to initialize automation. It can initialize some of the common fonts installed in the program MS Office 2000. The process osa9.exe is also able to handle some commands such as New Office Document, Find Fast, Open Office Document, Help, and Screen Saver on the start menu and on the MS Office Shortcut tool bar.
The process osa9.exe is also able to display MS Outlook notifications whenever the MS Office Assistant is active.
One known advantage of using the process osa9.exe is that this file is able to initialize the shared code that is used by MS Office 2000 applications. The gain in using the osa9.exe file to initialize shared code is that doing so will make MS Office 2000 application run faster. If MS Office 2000 programs were used to initialize shared codes instead of the process osa9.exe, the time it takes for the applications to load will become longer.
User may choose to terminate or disable the process osa9.exe safely without causing MS Office 2000 applications to fail. Doing so is discouraged though since users will not be able to enjoy the performance benefits of using the process osa9.exe. Also, the MS Office Shortcut Bar or OSB and the program Find Fast may no longer automatically load if these two applications were configured to start when Windows boot.
The application MS Office Startup or the process osa9.exe is not a necessary program for startup. This application runs infrequently and users may choose to disable the program at startup or they may choose to start the application manually if needed.
The process task osa9.exe doubles up the launcher of MS Shortcut Toolbar in Microsoft Office 2000 and allows the user to start MS Office Programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint to load directly from a toolbar which normally sits at the top or on the side of the computer screen.
