: The process file msstat.exe is a component of the Sony Memory Stick floppy disk adaptor. In the year 2000, the Sony Corporation launched into the market its Memory Stick floppy disk adaptor (a product that integrates the SmartDisk Corporation's Flash Path technology), which makes use of the file msstat.exe. The product has been designed to bridge computers and digital applications even closer together by making the transfer of data from memory cards to disk drives a lot easier and a lot less complicated.

Before the introduction of the Memory Stick floppy disk adaptor and the process file msstat.exe, the common way to transfer data from a memory card to a computer was through a memory card reader. A memory card reader has a USB interface and a slot where the memory card goes in. Data transfers from memory sticks to disk drives in the computer were facilitated and linked by memory card readers.

The function of the msstat.exe process file is to support the Memory Stick Floppy Disk Adaptor as it reads data from memory cards directly in a floppy disk drive. The file msstat.exe makes the transfer of data, audio files and images practically effortless and works with all memory stick capacities. The msstat.exe file renders a memory card reader unnecessary.

The process file msstat.exe can run as soon as the computer starts up with a file size on Windows XP of approximately 205 Kb. The msstat.exe process file is not a Windows system file. One can locate on the task bar an icon of the msstat.exe process file. It also has a visible window.
