Windows Process Description:

The msgplus.exe process is an executable file which launches a freeware add-on for the Microsoft Messenger application. When Messenger Plus is downloaded it adds a number of extra functions to the standard Microsoft Messenger. The msgplus.exe add-on has many improvements that enhance Microsoft Messenger's instant messaging capabilities.

The functions of Messenger Plus include easy customizing of the tabs and other new functions included in the upgrade. Instant messaging for Microsoft Messenger becomes easier after the msgplus.exe file is downloaded which provides the option for Tabbed Chats which gives the option to separate special chat windows from normal chat windows very much like the old school IRC chat application. The Messenger Plus upgrade also has the Quick Text feature that gives the user the option to customize automatic messages. Customizing sounds is also an added feature in Messenger Plus which allows sending emotion sounds from one user to another from existing MP3 files, live recording or from public databases. Dragging or dropping messages and links to contacts saved in the user's computer is also possible. The Color and Text formatting feature after installing Message Plus allows users to change the window color from the front and the background. Text formatting allows change of window fonts and text to Italic, bold or underlined and also allows users to change font color. Text command shortcuts are also available just like what is used for IRC chatting. The Personalized Status feature of Messenger Plus can be customized with special names, busy status, personal message and a reliable auto-responder. A Messenger Lock feature is also included to prevent unauthorized use of the msgplus.exe file by hiding itself in the system tray or a hidden icon. The Messenger Lock feature also provides password protection for added security. HTML chat logging, Event Viewer and Event Logging makes it possible to review the history of activities using Microsoft Messenger when msgplus.exe is downloaded. The best feature however of msgplus.exe is that it is free of charge.

The downloadable file size of the msgplus.exe add-on is approximately 3.78MB. It is compatible with Windows Live Messenger 8.0 to 8.5 and it can be installed on the 32bit and 64bit versions of Windows XP and Windows Vista. Messenger Plus is the application which runs msgplus.exe and is usually used for instant messaging and file transferring.

During the installation of the msgplus.exe file users will be prompted if they would agree to install a sponsor program which will add a search bar on their Internet Explorer. This message only has an option to continue downloading so users are advised to uninstall Messenger Plus then re-install the msgplus.exe file if they do not wish to have this search box on their Internet Explorer window.

The msgplus.exe file in Messenger Plus is a third party add-on for Microsoft Messenger. Although it is not in any way connected to MSN Plus or Windows Plus which are both products of Microsoft it is still the most popular, effective and well-respected add-on for Microsoft Messenger.
