Windows Process Description:

The mp_s3.exe process belongs to Silicon Integrated Systems Corporation (SiS), a worldwide leader in the development of core logic products, multimedia and communication system. Founded in 1987, this Taiwanese company only manufactures chipsets for motherboards and video graphics accelerator cards but do not assemble them for retail use. The term chipset refers to a set of specialized chips on a computer's mainboard.

The file mp_s3.exe, also defined as SiSAudio and linked to the process sisaudio.dll, is an executable application that installs the audio driver patch of SIS 961 chipset on Windows ME operating system. The mp_s3.exe application fixes and repairs the FERR bug from older chipsets of SIS 961. If your SiS driver is not updated, the process mp_s3.exe appears as a message box each time your computer is started. It does not, however, stop the computer from loading nor stop any program from running.

The mp_s3.exe application is a part of the SiS AGP Driver 650/651/661/740/741/760 3.64 WHQL software package that includes the following Windows Patches: the sis_lib.dll and sisport.sys for Windows XP used for reading PCI port, the sisusbrg.exe that adds registry for USB bug under Windows XP and the openhci.sys provided by Microsoft to update USB OHCI.

The mp_s3.exe file has a file size of 118,784 bytes. It is most commonly found under the directory of C:/WINDOWS/Drivers/Chipset/USB/Win9x/SiSFiles/or sometimes in a subfolder of C:/WINDOWS/System/. The mp_s3.exe application is a core component of SiS audio hardware drivers, thus it should be found on that hardware's directory. Removing the mp_s3.exe file may adversely affect the behavior of your audio hardware. It is recommended that the program mp_s3.exe should not be deleted or altered in any way if you want to properly manage the functions of your audio device. The process mp_s3.exe can be included to the list of startup processes by adding its entry on the Run, RunOnce, RunServices, or RunServicesOnce in the registry.
