Windows Process Description:

The process lmgui.exe is one of the six modules housed by the software BitDefender as a protection against all kinds of viruses, spywares, spam and hackers. Five other modules are installed by default with BitDefender Professional V6.5, such as BitDefender Live, BitDefender Quarantine, BitDefender Scheduler, BitDefender P2P, and BitDefender Shell Extension.

The lmgui.exe application or Murphy Shield is the on-access component which creates an icon in the system tray. The icon links directly to the main portion of the program lmgui.exe, the Content Scanner. This portion is where other components can be controlled. It provides real-time scanning of incoming email, instant messaging, internet downloads, network traffic and all removable drives like floppies, CDs, zips and USB sticks.

Another component of the lmgui.exe program is the Behavior Blocker portion that detects the presence of malwares, viruses and other suspicious activities in the internet, file system and system registry. Once detected, the Behavior Blocker is triggered and adds the application to the list of banned applications. This portion also blocks inbound and outbound cookies, Active X, Java or scripts. Two other portions of the application lmgui.exe gives statistical and product information on the objects that have been scanned.

The file lmgui.exe is usually located in the subfolder of C:/Program Files/Softwin/BDHome/. It has known file sizes of 1332696 bytes, 602112 bytes and 602112 bytes on Windows XP.
