Windows Process Description:
The lexstart.exe process, also known as Lexmark Start, is a valid program installed with Microsoft Windows 95 or 98 operating systems by the older versions of Lexmark printer drivers. The file lexstart.exe is added in the startup folder by the Lexmark printer software in order to give commands to the printer when you print. The lexstart.exe application is also essential for the older Lexmark printers to work correctly because of its diagnostic functions.
The lexstart.exe process is a non-essential Windows system process but it is not a security risk. It should not be uninstalled if it's not causing any problem. In most cases, the program lexstart.exe is still stable and fully functional. In newer models, Lexmark printers are equipped with drivers better and updated.
If the system starts to slow down and causes failure during the boot up process, remove the file lexstart.exe. This is done by deleting all the copies of the files from the printer's folder, answering "yes" to all the questions to be asked during the uninstall process. If you are an advanced user, you may also delete all lex*.* files from C:/Windows/System and from the subfolder C:/Program Files/Lexmark. Afterwards, download the latest driver for your printer from the Lexmark website and install the update driver.
The current version of the program lexstart.exe is 96,05,12,00. The file lexstart.exe can be entered to the registry keys in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run during the Windows boot up process.
The process lexstart.exe is associated to the following processes: acbtnmgr_xxx.exe file (known as Lexmark button manager), the process lexpps.exe or the Lexmark printer port scanner, the file lmpdpsrv.exe which pertains to Lexmark printer device service, the Lexmark DOS printing control application lxdboxcp.exe, the Lexmark update monitor file lxsupmon.exe and the Lexmark print tray icon known as the printray.exe process.
The file lexstart.exe has no signed digital certificate from its publisher, Lexmark International, Inc., meaning it does not come from a trusted windows source. However, the program lexstart.exe has a unique MD5 hash file of 3A44FAD74EEBABE5FF0A07852CE837C5 that verifies its legitimacy.
