Windows Process Description:

The application lexpps.exe is a background application made by Lexmark International, Inc. This file is a part of the product MarkVision for Windows (32 bit) which provides the auto-discovery of TCP/IP utility.

The file lexpps.exe has known file sizes of 174592 bytes to 352218 bytes on Windows XP. The lexpps.exe file is located in the folder C:/Windows/System 32 or in the subfolder C:/Windows/System 32. It is not a system file and does not have a visible window. Its settings of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run/LexPPS.exe automatically enter the registry keys. The current version of lexpps.exe program is 9.41.

The lexpps.exe program is a background task for Lexmark Printer Port Scanner utility. It automatically loads and installed with other printer drivers which allow bi-directional printing and sharing a printer over a peered network. To do this task, it binds to TCP port 1025, which sometimes poses a threat to your network if you are not behind a firewall. The file lexpps.exe also records inputs and sends data on other open ports to the internet or local area network. It sits in the background and waits for incoming connections.

The lexpps.exe file may not be a critical system component but it is a valid application program supporting Lexmark printers. The application lexpps.exe is not required to run on startup but there is no way to disable it from starting up. Because the printer driver automatically loads the lexpps.exe program, the system registry should not be changed to disable it.

The lexpps.exe application entails a lot of problems and inconsistencies such as asking permission to install itself as a server application, intruding with your LAN card and preventing your computer from booting up. In order to cure this, rename the file lexpps.exe to lexpps.exe.old. Under Windows NT, the deletion of this windows component will disable the operating system.

The lexpps.exe program is also used by some printers built by Lexmark such as Dell Printers and is installed by default.
