The process laokey.exe is a part of the software Lao Script for Windows, commonly known as LSWin, developed by Marc and Dr. John Durdin. It is an extension to the Windows operating system allowing the use of Lao language on Windows-based applications. From the time it was released in 1993, the program laokey.exe has been used worldwide.
The laokey.exe application supports the use of many different Lao and English TrueType Fonts, both Unicode and non-Unicode coding conventions. One of these is an OpenType Lao Unicode Font, the Saysettha OT, which was specially optimized for webpage design. The program laokey.exe also enables Romanization of Lao text which includes a selected portion or the entire file. The program also allows the conversion of Thai language to Lao.
With the use of Lao keyboard management, the program laokey.exe allows the input of Lao text through a standard keyboard layout or through typing Romanized equivalent for the Lao syllables. Simplified font conversion, sorting according to Lao dictionary and Lao spell-checking are some of laokey.exe program's special features which can be accessed as menu functions when used with Microsoft Word. The new version of LSWin supports integration with Microsoft Office applications.
The laokey.exe file is located in the subfolder of C:/Program Files/LSWin/. It has a known file size of 3912 KB on Windows XP. The current version of the program laokey.exe is LSWin 7.02 which was specially developed for use with Microsoft Vista, Microsoft XP and Microsoft 2000 operating systems.
The file laokey.exe is not a part of the Windows system. It can be included to the list of startup processes by adding the registry keys: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run to the system registry.
The laokey.exe application can be removed safely from the system without affecting its performance. It is listed in the programs that can be uninstalled through the Add/Remove Programs tab of the Control Panel.
