The keypatrol.exe process is also known as KeyPatrol and is part of eTrust Pest Patrol. The program file keypatrol.exe basically has the ability to detect Key Loggers or Keyboard loggers. Key Loggers hook to your keyboard and watch what you are typing. The keypatrol.exe process detects this by using behavior and pattern-matched algorithms. These algorithms are allowed to detect an existing key logger by using a pattern match that runs and compares this with a 124,474 pest data base. This determines if the program that you are running is a 'Key Logger".

The process file keypatrol.exe runs on all Windows environments such as Win 95/98/NT/2000/ME and XP. The keypatrol.exe is launched by its related .exe file PPMemCheck. When the filename PPMemCheck loads, the keypatrol.exe is launched. It is automatically opened also when a there is an existing process that is running with a different name from the last scan of the KeyPatrol. The keypatrol.exe process may also be manually launched when you click Start, then Programs, then choose the item from the Pest Patrol Menu.
