Windows Process Description:
The process k6cpu.exe is a program manufactured by IBM. The main purpose of the k6cpu.exe program is to authenticate CPU's as K6. K6 is a microprocessor that was officially launched by AMD during the year 1997. The AMD K6 microprocessor can compete with the Intel Pentium II CPU but at a lower price. This is the main advantage of the K6.
The K6 microprocessor which houses the process k6cpu.exe has two distinct models. The Model 6 has 66MHz front side bus and a clockrate of 166, 200 and 233 MHz. The Model 6 was first released in April 2, 1997. The Model 7 or the K6 "Little Foot" has 8.8 million transistors in 250 nm, a front side bus of 66 MHz, clockrate speeds of 200, 233, 266 and 300 MHz. The Little Foot model was released in January 6, 1998.
The k6cpu.exe file is by default placed in the ibmtools folder of your system's local disk upon installation. You may choose to install the process k6cpu.exe on a different location or path. But it is more recommended that you let the k6cpu.exe process be placed in the default installation folder. The k6cpu.exe process is rarely used since it is only essential during CPU validation procedures. You may create a desktop icon of the k6cpu.exe process. The only thing you have to avoid is removing the k6cpu.exe file from its default installation location. This process may be associated with other executable or system files for it to be able to perform its designated functions.
It is also important for computer users to maintain a high level of security within their system to prevent certain malware infiltrations that may lead to drastic effects. To keep your computer protected, perform system scans using your anti-malware product on a regular basis. This will detect and eliminate malicious software applications from your system. Always update your anti-malware tool to keep you protected even from the most recent threats. Every day, a significant number of malware applications are being identified. There may be existing malware files that are capable of camouflaging as the k6cpu.exe process. These camouflaging malware consume abnormal amounts of virtual memory resources. This particular behavior will help you detect malware files that may be lurking in your system.
