The Google Desktop program uses the googledesktop.exe process as the main application file. The googledesktop.exe application is launched whenever you double click or open this specific file. Once executed, the googledesktop.exe process will launch the main interface of the program which is much like that of the Google homepage.

The application window of the googledesktop.exe file allows you to search through various files and folders in your desktop much like the search option for included in the Windows OS but with more intensive search capabilities. Since the googledesktop.exe process uses text search instead of title only search, it is more useful than the Windows built-in search tool.
