Windows Process Description:

The fpplock.exe process belongs to the Folder Password Expert Software developed by ZQS Software Team. The Folder Password Expert is a software program that restricts access to the user's folders containing private and sensitive data.

The process fpplock.exe, as part of the said software, prevents unauthorized people from viewing, copying, altering, printing, or deleting the user's confidential files. The fpplock.exe process allows the user to protect folders from the network, hard drive, and USB drives by using a user-given password. These folders can only be opened if and only if the user gives the correct password.

Once installed, the user may utilize the Folder Password Expert simply by right clicking the folder to be protected, then selecting 'Protect Folder'. The program will require the user to choose a password that only he can use in opening the folders. When the user tries to open this folder, the fpplock.exe process prompts for the password. The process fpplock.exe may also provide a step-by-step wizard that will help the user in selecting and protecting folders.

The fpplock.exe process never stores the user-selected password anywhere in the hard drive or the Windows registry. This way, malicious users can never get hold of them. The only thing that the fpplock.exe process stores is a unique ID called password checksum, which is not usable in finding the passwords.

The fpplock.exe process is usually found in a subdirectory of C:/Windows/System32 and has a file size of about 119 Kb. This process does not consume the user's computer resources. Until an intruder tries to illegally access protected files, the process fpplock.exe will just sleep in the system. The fpplock.exe process is compatible with Windows 98, NT, 2000, Vista, XP, and ME.

The user is strictly warned against the termination of this process since it is vital for the protection of files against unauthorized persons trying to access them illicitly. However, if the user is, for some reason, compelled to end the process, he may do so. The fpplock.exe process will still run when the user restarts the computer or reruns Folder Password Expert.
