The flatbed.exe file is also the process PP3100b (Paper Port 3100b). It is a process file needed by Paperport scanners to operate. The flatbed.exe file is bundled with drivers for scanning devices from Visioneer.

Upon execution, the flatbed.exe process will call forth and initiate interaction from other files related to the scanner. Some of these files that are associated with the process flatbed.exe are ppwebcap.exe, pperr.dll, maxutil.dll, maxrast.dll, maxlink3.dll, maxkernl.dll, maxcodec.dll, and fbdirect.exe. The interaction of the fbdirect.exe process with these files allows the scanner to operate normally.

Generally, the flatbed.exe file starts up upon startup. However, it is upon the computer user's discretion whether this process runs in the startup or not. If the scanner device is frequently being used, it may be a wise choice to keep the flatbed.exe process running when the operating system starts.
