The Free Download Manager (FDM) application uses the fdm.exe process as the main executable program file. FDM is a program for organizing and optimizing the speed of download activities. It allows users to avoid downloading problems resulting from connection instability and poor connection speed by resuming broken downloads and performing simultaneous downloads. Newer versions of the fdm.exe application also allow users to download from video sites, upload files via the Internet, and download files through BitTorrent protocols.

The program file fdm.exe is a freeware application developed by the company called FreeDownloadManager.ORG under the General Public License GNU. Currently released versions of the file are v1.9, v2.x and higher including the most recent 2.5.723 version. Only versions 2.5 and higher of the fdm.exe application are categorized as open source.

The process fdm.exe can be automatically executed during startup by selecting the "Load on startup" general settings option in the FDM window. This option may also be selected when the application is minimized in the system tray. The file itself takes up around 2.33MB of storage disk space. When executed, the process fdm.exe consumes at least 1.5MB of RAM resources while idly running from the system tray. During active operation of the software tools, the fdm.exe process may take up as much as 15MB of memory usage.

Upon execution, the fdm.exe file makes use of several windows that allow users to control the tools associated with the download progress including flash video downloads, scheduler, site explorer, site manager and HTML spider. The fdm.exe program file accesses the Internet to download music, video, software and other files using FTP, HTTP and HTTPS protocols. The file fdm.exe is the core component to the FDM program and must not be deleted to keep the program running smoothly. The fdm.exe file is usually found in C:/Program Files/Free Download Manager folder.

The fdm.exe file is compatible with most Microsoft Windows operating systems including Microsoft Windows 9x, Millenium Edition, 2000 and Vista 32-bit.
