The fbism.exe process is a process executed by the Compaq system that manages one of its core applications called the Compaq Restore program. The execution of the fbism.exe process calls the restore files (found in the D: partition of Compaq computers by default) and uses these files to restore the system to factory state with the Compaq system original software. The fbism.exe file, or better known as Compaq's File Based Installer System Manager, manages the restoration components of the system when called to run by the Compaq Recovery CD, a cd containing boot files that comes with the Compaq hardware.
