The process dvzmsgr.exe, or DataViz Messenger, is part of the application Documents-To-Go developed by DataViz Inc. The process allows the user to synchronize their handheld device with their computer when connected through a USB or a serial port.
The file dvzmsgr.exe is bundled with the installer for Documents-To-Go application. Once installed in your system, the file dvzmsgr.exe will be located under C:/Windows/DVZCommon/. It will then be included in your startup group and would initialize upon system boot. The process dvzmsgr.exe will have a value of dvzmsgr.exe or DataViz Messenger under the registry location HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/User Shell Folders/
Once installed in your system, the process dvzmsgr.exe will allow the user to synchronize their handheld devices, such as Palm, with their system. The process will call up hosts of DLLs which will allow the user to directly manipulate their device through the Documents-To-Go application. The process has a memory usage of 24KB when it is active. It does not have a visible window, yet continues to run in the background.
It is also known that the process dvzmsgr.exe is important in the overall workings of the Documents-To-Go application. One of its basic functions is aiding the application in converting Microsoft Office documents such as Word and Excel to be compatible with their handheld device.
Even if the file is located under C:/Windows/, it is not a required system component and can be disabled from your startup group. Once the application Documents-To-Go application is manually executed, it will automatically call up the process dvzmsgr.exe.
You can disable the process dvzmsgr.exe from your startup group either by using WinTask or MsConfig. If you don't want to disable this from your startup group but would want to end the process, you can easily do so by going to Task Manager and look for the process dvzmsgr.exe under the Process tab, then you can just click "End Process" to terminate the application.
