The process dshmap.exe is a product developed by Intel to address the need of internet sharing across the globe. The dshmap.exe process is part off Intel's AnyPoint Internet Sharing Software.

AnyPoint Internet Software, as well as the bundled dshmap.exe, is very important software if you subscribed to AnyPoint Broadband Services. The installer is also included with the driver that comes with Intel's AnyPoint arrays of modems.

The software can be download from the Intel site http:// www.intel.com/ and is included in your startup registry Run, RunOnce, and RunServiceOnce entry. Operating systems compatible with the process dshmap.exe are Microsoft Windows 9x, 2000, ME, XP Professional Edition, and Windows XP Home Edition. The newer version of the software is 2.30.02.

Once installed in your system, the process dshmap.exe will automatically detect and connection to your connection if you are automatically open to the internet; but if you are using a model and has a dial-up connection, you may need to dial the connection in order to proceed internet sharing.

Internet sharing allows you to connect to various computers across the globe thus allowing you a more flexible form of file transfer.

Once installed in your system, the process dshmap.exe will be placed under one of the sub-folders in the location C:/Program Files/will be included in your startup group to be initialized upon boot. Since the process is not a required component of the Windows Operating System, you may disable this from your startup group using either MsConfig or WinTask.

Disabling the process may cause some error in the functionality of your device that may interrupt your connection. Also be warned that AnyPoint software will disable your firewall settings to allow 2-way connection with another user. If this is the case, you may need to download and install detection software for your computer system.
