Windows Process Description:

The process file dlg.exe is a component of the Classic PhoneTools from Avanquest Software. The process dlg.exe automatically runs when windows boots up but users can set the file dlg.exe to run on demand by configuring it in the System Configuration Utility and then deselecting the dlg.exe file from the list of startup process in the Startup Tab. The application dlg.exe detects when users plug or unplug a digital telephone line or internal PABX line. The dlg.exe executable process generally comes pre-installed with other softwares by Dell, Broadcom Modem Drivers and Conexant v.92 aside from the Classic PhoneTools.

Although the executable dlg.exe is considered a system process, it is still not considered as a main component of Windows Operating Systems. The process dlg.exe runs completely in the background and not only detects digital telephone line connections but analog telephone lines or normal home telephones as well. In instances where the dlg.exe application detects that the user's modem is plugged into a digital telephone line, it will automatically present a warning to the user as the modem will not operate on a digital telephone line. However, disabling it before the modem has made a connection will render the file useless and the modem to possibly malfunction.
