Windows Process Description:

The dkicon.exe executable process is a component belonging to the DisKeeper software or DisKeeper Defragmenter or DisKeeper Professional. Diskeeper Corporation, formerly known as Executive Software International, Inc. is the company who developed the DisKeeper software and the process file dkicon.exe. The application dkicon.exe is automatically installed alongside the DisKeeper software, in the directory C:/Program Files/Executive Software/Diskeeper/dkicon.exe.

The program file dkicon.exe does not need to run during the Windows startup since it will automatically run when users launch the DisKeeper program. However, Windows launches the dkicon.exe process upon startup via the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run. Users can actually disable the dkicon.exe file when it is started by Windows since it will not affect the operations of the process file. Users can configure the dkicon.exe application to stop launching upon Windows startup by clicking the "Start" option, then selecting the "Run" option, then typing "msconfig"; the System Configuration Utility then opens. The user has to find the dkicon.exe file on the utility's "Startup" tab and uncheck it.

Currently, there are over 9 file size variations of the process dkicon.exe on the Windows XP platform: 184408 bytes in 28% of all instances and 357846 bytes, 21504 bytes, 196696 bytes, 163840 bytes, 319488 bytes, 180312 bytes, 176216 bytes and 221184 bytes in the remaining instances. Although the process dkicon.exe is not considered a Windows systems central process, it is unadvisable that users remove it form the computer system as it is responsible for running the taskbar icon of the DisKeeper software and it also gives the software additional configuration settings.
