The commander.exe process is located in the folder C:/Program Files/Iomega/Iomegaware/commander.exe. The executable process commander.exe is a component belonging to the IomegaWare version 2.02. The file version of the commander.exe process is also version 2.02 like the version of the software it is a part of. Older versions of the IomegaWare do not include the executable file commander.exe.

The IomegaWare 2.02 from Iomega Corporation runs the application commander.exe with the use of a startup switch. The program file commander.exe is essential to the correct functionality and overall performance of the IomegaWare version 2.02 so it is highly advised to users that the file commander.exe be left running when the IomegaWare is being utilized.

The program that houses the process commander.exe is the IomegaWare; software for formatting, locating, managing, protecting and changing settings on users with Iomega drives. Support for products such as Peerless, Zip, USB PocketZip, HIpZip, Jaz and Digital Image Center is also provided. The drivers included in the IomegaWare software makes the drive visible in the user's operating system.

The IomegaWare can also do these tasks: access features for password protection, monitor Disk life and Format Life of the user's disks, change the sleep time for the drive and automatically eject Zip Disks when Windows is shutting down.

Having the commander.exe executable file in the startup folder will not have any effect on the process and the IomegaWare Software. It will ultimately depend on the chosen settings form the Options tab in the program commander.exe which is available through another IomegaWare shortcut in the Start /Programs menu under the Iomega.

The commander.exe executable process is not considered a core file of Windows Operating Systems, but since it came from a reputable company, Iomega Corporation, it is a valid process file and it is safe to have running in the computer system.
