Windows Process Description:

The process file combo.exe is a vital component of Smart Technologies Inc.'s Smart Board Driver 5.61b. The Smart Board Driver is used in accord with the EnVision Video Conferencing System manufactured by Sorenson Vision Inc. The EnVision Video Conferencing System utilizes the Microsoft NetMeeting 3.01 which in turn utilizes the Smart Board Driver which utilizes the combo.exe process. The file combo.exe is not a core file of Windows Operating Systems.

Prior to the utilization of the combo.exe file, the Smart Board Driver which EnVision uses were having difficulties sharing remote site Pen Tray annotations with its host site. The dilemma was that EnVision Software's close incorporation of NetMeeting 3.01 made the user interface of NetMeeting pointless. Though NetMeeting still runs, it only runs in control mode and the user interface is never operated. This is where the program file combo.exe comes to the picture; the user interface of NetMeeting required the process combo.exe that is part of the Smart Board Driver.

The program file combo.exe is in charge of sharing the Smart Board Driver that belongs to whichever host or remote site lifts a Pen Tray Pen, which is an operation that would only execute if it perceives the user interface of NetMeeting. If the combo.exe process is inactive, the remote site will never be able to share the host site's Smart Board Driver and the Pen Tray Annotations will only be locally viewed. The Pen Tray Annotations would be writing on the shared application through their own respective Board Drivers and the annotations will not be received by the host site.

To assist integrated conferencing with the Envision Video Conferencing, Smart Technologies, Inc., modified the older version of the combo.exe program file so that its operations will be set off by the presence of the NetMeeting running in control mode instead of the user interface. With the upgrade of the file combo.exe, the Smart Board Driver and the EnVision software worked seamlessly together, plus the achievement of active collaboration with Pen Tray Tools.
