The process cachemgr.exe is also known as Sophos Cache Manager. Sophos Cache Manager is a part of the Sophos Remote Update software. The cachemgr.exe process is used in accessing previously used files for future reference. Sophos Cache Manager is included in Sophos Web Security software.

The file cachemgr.exe is located in a subfolder of the Program Files directory. The file cachemgr.exe has a known file size varying from 28 kilobytes to 148 kilobytes. The cachemgr.exe file with a size of 53,248 bytes has a released version of 1.2.29.1 and has no visible window. The process cachemgr.exe is not a Windows core process. The cachemgr.exe file has a hidden attribute by default. It is recommended to be included in the start up if you want to utilize the Sophos Antivirus Remote Update of Sophos Web Security software.

The cachemgr.exe applications works as a filter for data that are passed to the cache folder for storage. These data include previously viewed or accessed sites, cookies and other files that the Sophos Web Security software keeps for backtracking files. Once the files are transferred into the cache folder, the cachemgr.exe tracks the source of the file and runs the file into a series of security checks if it a malicious file that can adversely affect other files. The cachemgr.exe manages the flow of files transferred to the cache and at the same time protects the system from storing harmful files in the cache folder. The cachemgr.exe is also used in updating the files needed by the software such as signatures and security threat updates. Instead of repeatedly copying files, the cachemgr.exe creates a cache folder for files that are used by the software and at the same time updates the contents if the files are found to be outdated.
