The activemenu.exe file launches the HP Games Active Menu. The HP Games Active Menu is a bundle of Wild Tangent Games that accompany selected HP computers.
The activemenu.exe process launches a series of games that were created and developed by Wild Tangent. Though the activemenu.exe file is not part of the HP computers operating system, nor is it a hardware driver, the file is included by HP in its software bundles as an added service to its users.
Some websites may flag the activemenu.exe application as Adware. This is because Wild Tangent used to list in its privacy policies that they collect data for private companies. This data collection may have qualified the activemenu.exe file as malicious in the past. Spyware would enable third party information gathering which can be fettered out to other clients for market research.
However, Wild Tangent has recently updated its privacy policy to state that its software, including the activemenu.exe file, is no longer used for data gathering. This update would make the activemenu.exe a valid, if not a safe file.

The same pre-installed game bundle which included the activemenu.exe process was launched for HP consumer notebook computers early 2006. Aside from Wild Tangent games, the bundle included games by Atari and Popcap.
